Clarification Regarding Statement on Joint Forces and Zamzam IDPs Camp

Date: November 15, 2024

Subject: Clarification Regarding Statement on Joint Forces and Zamzam IDPs Camp.

We, the undersigned organization and network, would like to clarify that we were not involved in the statement titled “Joint Forces Must End Military Presence in Zamzam IDPs.” We were unaware of our respected organization’s name being associated with this statement until recently.

As such, we hereby disassociate ourselves from the content of this statement and will not be held responsible for any consequences arising from its dissemination.

Additionally, after extensive discussions with the Zamzam camp’s stakeholders, including, camp leaders, elders, resistance committees, and representatives of women and youth, we have confirmed that there is no military presence of joint forces in the Zamzam IDP camp. We believe the allegations regarding this matter are politically motivated and lack any factual basis.

The manipulation of facts underscores the need for stronger international oversight, particularly through the UN Human Rights Council’s fact-finding mission. To enhance the effectiveness of such investigations, the mission’s scope and methodology must be improved. This includes conducting unbiased analyses of the conflict’s root causes and consulting a variety of credible sources to ensure accurate findings, free from political biases. Given the ethnic divisions and varied interests in the conflict, a commitment to integrity and professionalism is essential, necessitating direct contact with all relevant parties and the use of independent data sources.

We remain committed to transparency and will continue to advocate for truthful and fact-based dialogue concerning issues affecting Sudan.

Signed,

  1. AWAFY Sudanese Organization
  2. Darfur Bar Association (DBA)
  3. Darfur Network for Human Rights (DNHR)
